Toponymy and Geographic Information system. an example of their combined use in Landscape Archaeology

Jesús Fernández Fernández

Abstract

Toponymy is still one of the unavoidable sources of information for the recognition and archaeological analysis of the territory. in this paper we will show how this technique is used to find new deposits in the central area of Asturies (the area from the Valley of Trubia) in how they were combined with the Geographic information System (GiS), with the aims of defining the possible patterns for these deposits. With all these data, we can get closer to the occupational processes of the rooming different areas and fulfil the empty spaces in the already known archaeological register.
